In the Criminal Offense Act (1960) of Ghana, Abduction is spelled out as detaining a child and preventing him from enjoying his lawful possession entitled to him.  (Section 92)

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit’s report on abduction cases in 2015 has been visualized in the info graph above.

From the info graph, it is seen that the highest perpetrators of abduction are males with a total percentage of 46.90%.

The relationship between the victims and their suspects is also disturbing. The nuclear family was responsible for 30.38% of all reported cases.

With the treatment of cases, the report is not encouraging. Having 98.53% of cases reported as true, it is not impressive to know that 84.37% cases are still under investigation with just 8.26% sent to court. Abduction by the law is a crime, and there must be urgency in tackling cases. It is alarming as indicated from the info graph that only 0.88% out of the total number of cases sent to court were convicted. Perpetrators of the crime must be punished to stop them from this act and also deter others from engaging in it also.
